Just a little update on Mark O Mahony’s preparations for the NYC Marathon which will be held on Sunday, November 3.
As we all know, last year’s race was cancelled at the last minute because of the horrible storm we had that devastated large areas of New York and New Jersey. After many months of preparation and lots of training many people were very disappointed among them Mark who had run up a tremendous amount of mileage.
All of this preparation and training was being done by Mark to raise funds for the poorest of the poor in the slums of Bangkok, Thailand. Mark had reached out to Fr. Joe Maier, a Redemptorist priest who founded Mercy Centre, because he knew of the great work he was doing in the poorest slums of Bangkok. Fr. Joe and his wonderful staff have been caring for abandoned, abused and trafficked children at the Mercy Centre for the last 41 years and they have spared these kids a life of utter poverty and for many children a life of prostitution on the streets.
So Mark is again this year getting into shape to help these kids and he is asking you to give him the best support you can by sponsoring him on this project. Mercy Centre USA is the US foundation that supports Mercy Centre in Bangkok and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Therefore, your donations are fully tax exempt. You may send a check to Mercy Centre USA or donate via PayPal from this website.
Mark will be presenting these donations on your behalf to Mercy Centre USA at a gala fundraising concert at the Irish Repertory Theatre, 132 W 22nd Street, NYC, on November 18. You are all cordially invited to attend this concert and reception.
